Heteronormativity

1.

Heteronormativity is an ideology that presumes that heterosexuality is “normal” in society. Therefore, it is the belief that everyone is—and must be—heterosexual, and that heterosexuality is ‘natural’, with all other sexualities being deviations from this standard.

2.

Heteronormativity is a belief that heterosexuality is normal and natural and to do with people’s reproductive features. Heteronormativity as a belief system aims to hide other sexualities, and to label them as wrong and as something to be corrected. The belief which underscores heteronormativity is that one’s sexuality can be “normal”.
