Weaponised Incompetence

Weaponised incompetence is when a partner exaggerates their inability to perform simple tasks like cleaning, cooking or making plans, in order to shift the burden of responsibility back to the other partner. [Glamour mag]

Imagine you’re a woman in a heterosexual relationship who tends to do most of the cooking. You know you do it because he ‘can’t cook,’ and when you really ask him to, he makes beans on toast, and you’re sick of beans on toast. He could learn to cook well, he could follow a recipe – but because he says he is incompetent at it, the responsibility for that household chore falls to you.
